Brief Historical Look In the early 1990s, as just-in-time manufacturing came fully on the scene, we noticed a sharp rise in the shipment of parcels. Realizing there was an information void in this area of the transportation industry, we created Parcel in 1994 to provide logistics professionals with the knowledge to improve operations and respond to market changes.

While we understood there was a developing trend, no one could have predicted the boon in parcel shipments. Several key factors have affected the growth of parcel shipments since the launch of Parcel, including just-in-time principles; the increase in competitive carriers and the services they offer; the rise of the Internet, which affects communications between shippers and carriers; and shifts in human behavior as more consumers and businesses order from catalogs and the Internet.

Today, we are the sole provider of information to the most advanced segment of the transportation industry. We built our magazine on the entire process, not just a part of the process. From inception, we understood that to handle any shipment efficiently and cost-effectively, you must understand and control the process from beginning (order entry) through the warehouse to packaging and shipment processing to the final delivery of the product to the customer. Our coverage of the industry continues in that vein.

Your Information, Your Way Since the inception of the magazine in 1994, we have added more venues to disseminate information to parcel industry professionals. Suppliers to the industry also provide important information to you about industry trends, services and products as well as operational efficiencies, so we launched special sponsored issues of Parcel in 1996. UPS, Kewill and the USPS have taken advantage of this opportunity since then. For more timely information, we added a website in 2000 and opened a new site with state-of-the-web capabilities in 2006. To meet the ever-growing need for information, we began an electronic newsletter in 2004 that provides monthly updates on product and service offerings to the industry. And to let our readers meet one-on-one with each other, us, our writers and advertisers, we created the Parcel Forum in 1997. We revamped and reintroduced the event in 2003 with a more intimate gathering in which industry professionals can better network, learn and conduct business. The Parcel Forum has been praised for its unique style of uniting the parcel industry. Since 2005, we have been hosting webinars, which have allowed us to provide you with training without leaving the comfort of your office. And there is certainly more to come from us as new avenues of communication open. With more wireless technology available and to serve those of you who prefer a paperless environment, we will offer a digital version of Parcel in 2007. Also look for live broadcasts of industry events on this website as well as Podcasts.
