Ownership is being replaced by relationships because of the sophistication of the Internet, telecommunications and data
management. It wasn’t too long ago that the term “rollup” meant buying and then building a collection of independent businesses that were doing the same thing, but in different markets, into one brand. Sometimes it was the first regional or national brand of its type, and in other situations, it was designed to compete with established brands.
