Garden City, NY (March 25, 2016) – The Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) and DHL Express, the world’s leading global express and logistics company, united once again to send more than 1.3 million Girl Scout Cookies® to U.S. military stationed overseas as part of the 11th annual Operation Cookie program. Thanks to the generous help of DHL Express, more than 65,000 boxes of cookies were shipped to troops in overseas installations, including those in Afghanistan and Bahrain, as well as to local Long Island military bases.

“Operation Cookie is our way of showing how grateful we are for all of the work that military personnel do for us every day,” said Donna Ceravolo, Executive Director and CEO of GSNC. “The Girls Scouts of Nassau County are ecstatic to be able to use our cookies to show appreciation for soldiers overseas for the eleventh year in a row.”

Over the past 10 years, Operation Cookie has shipped more than 620,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies® to our servicemen and women stationed abroad and locally. The community project provides the general public the opportunity to send soldiers a little piece of home with America’s most recognizable cookie. In the past, cookies have been delivered to our local National Guard, Long Island Marine bases, Coast Guard and military personnel stationed abroad.

"Operation Cookie is a rewarding way for us to work with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County and leverage our international shipping expertise to thank soldiers around the world for their service,” stated Joe Lotz, JFK Gateway Director at DHL Express. “Because DHL operates a truly global network, we are able to provide a taste of home to our troops, no matter how far away from home they are.”

The U.S. military serving overseas will soon be enjoying their favorite Girl Scout Cookies such as Thin Mints, Savannah Smiles, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Trefoils and Tagalongs. The Girl Scout Cookie Program and Operation Cookie teach Girl Scouts about goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics—aspects essential to leadership, to success and to life.
