Paul Hoelting, the vice president of corporate business development for UPS Freight (NYSE: UPS), has been promoted to the position of senior vice president of sales.

Hoelting, 45, will succeed the retiring John Fain, a long-time executive of Overnite Transportation who became a key figure in UPS's acquisition and transformation of that company into UPS Freight. Fain is retiring effective March 31.

Hoelting's more than two decades of experience in transportation began when he joined Union Pacific (UP) in 1990. Hoelting moved to Overnite Transportation in 1993 when he accepted an assignment with the Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) carrier, which was then owned by UP. Since then, Hoelting has held various positions throughout the company, up to and including his most recent assignments of vice president of finance and accounting and vice president of business development.

"Paul's experiences with rail, LTL, Truckload (TL) and small package operations represent an expertise in today's multi-modal environment that is invaluable to customers seeking solutions to their logistics needs," said UPS Freight President Jack Holmes.

Fain, 58, has been a fixture at Overnite Transportation and UPS Freight for the past 30 years. He has spent the past several years directing UPS Freight's sales and marketing initiatives in both domestic and international markets. Under his guidance, UPS Freight extended UPS's package service standards and technology to the LTL and TL marketplaces.

"John Fain has been a dynamic force in the transportation industry for decades and his business acumen and knowledge of the industry assisted us greatly as we made our entry into the LTL market," said Holmes. "With John's assistance, we were able to aggressively expand our portfolio and implement the services and technologies that have differentiated our products in this marketplace."

UPS Freight, one of the largest less-than-truckload carriers in the United States and a leading truckload service provider, serves customers throughout North America, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Island. For more information, visit www.upsfreight.com.
