UPS (NYSE: UPS) today was rated the "World's Most Admired" company in its industry in an annual survey conducted by FORTUNE magazine.
UPS posted an industry score of 7.42 on the magazine's 10-point scale, a substantial margin over the 2nd place score of 6.98. UPS's score also was the highest recorded for any company among the various transportation-related industry segments of airline, railroad, trucking and logistics companies.
Within its delivery industry, UPS dominated the scoring on the nine attributes used for judging, placing first on eight of the nine. The company was rated first in its industry on the attributes of innovation, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, quality of products and services and global competitiveness.
UPS, which has built one of the world's best known brands, operates in more than 220 countries and territories around the world and has been widely recognized in recent years for its expanding role in enabling global commerce. UPS has been ranked No. 1 in its industry in 26 of the 30 "Most Admired" surveys conducted by FORTUNE.
The complete rankings will appear in the March 21st issue of FORTUNE. To compile its list of America's most admired companies, FORTUNE worked with the Hay Group consultancy to poll senior executives, directors and analysts.
