Lift Trucks, a provider of lift trucks known for quality, reliability and customer service, has selected two Houston-area high school students to each receive a $5,000 scholarship for their higher education pursuits. Abbey Laclede of Galveston and Parker George of Houston were selected as this year’s recipients out of the nearly 130 Houston-area applicants, based on their superior academic performance, extracurricular activities and demonstration of community leadership and involvement. Abbey Laclede, an O’Connell College Preparatory School senior, will attend The University of Texas at Austin to study business with a concentration in marketing or finance in the fall. An AP Scholar, Abbey is ranked number one in her graduating class and has been recognized as a Commended National Merit Scholar for three consecutive years. She serves as the student body vice president and is an active Student Council representative. In addition to being a member of the Spanish Club and Photography Club, Abbey is also a four-year member of the O’Connell Softball State Championship team. She is a consistent volunteer for Jesse Tree, the Women’s Shelter and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Parker George, a Cypress Creek High School senior, has been accepted to The University of Texas at Austin, where he will study engineering and business as a part of the Business Honors program. He is an AP Scholar ranked number two in his graduating class, National Merit Scholar and made the Distinguished Honor Roll three of his four years in high school. Parker is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society. He serves as a Student Council representative, Key Club member and Future Business Leaders of America member. Parker actively volunteers at the Harris County Public Library, Heartland Convalescent Home and Park Manor Assisted Living Residence and is on the Executive Board for the Champions Area Teen Service Society. “Cat Lift Trucks is pleased to recognize and award these two outstanding students for their academic achievements and contributions to the Houston-area community,” said Jeff Rufener, vice president of marketing for Cat Lift Trucks. “Cat Lift Trucks believes in supporting future leaders, like Abbey and Parker, with their higher educational pursuits as an investment in our community for years to come.” The students will accept their awards at a special reception in June, which will be hosted at the Cat Lift Trucks North American headquarters in northwest Houston.
