Air Cargo World--Supply chain consultant Tompkins Associates has identified 11 steps for the logistics supply side to remain profitable in 2011. Top of the to-do list is productivity improvement as a result of continued price pressure from shippers. 

The other steps suggested by the company are:

•A strategic marketing plan that should leverage existing strengths for organic growth, or consider mergers and acquisitions to gain scale, fill service gaps or expand to new geographies.
•Understand internal and client metrics with knowledge of industry standards for each relevant vertical.
