Indianapolis, IN and Plantation, FL, March 27, 2011: DHL, the world’s leading international express services provider, is now speeding into its second season in a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Andretti Autosport, the championship-winning IZOD IndyCar Series team owned by Michael Andretti. As the Official Express and Logistics Provider of Andretti Autosport, DHL serves as a co-primary sponsor of the No. 28 entry driven by Ryan Hunter-Reay and an associate sponsor of the No. 27 car driven by IndyCar’s 2011 ‘Rookie of the Year,’ James Hinchcliffe.
“We are looking forward to another exhilarating season of IndyCar racing with the DHL brand front and center, and hope to see Ryan and James in the winner’s circle many times this season,” said Christine Nashick, Vice President of Marketing for DHL Express U.S. “The speed, reliability and dedication exemplified by Andretti Autosport and the DHL IndyCar team has truly been an ideal fit for DHL.”
Hunter-Reay started his third season with Andretti Autosport behind the wheel of the team’s DHL entry with a third-place finish in the season-opening race March 25 at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Hunter-Reay scored nine top-10 finishes in the final 11 races of 2011, including a victory at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Hinchcliffe began the season with a fourth-place finish at St. Petersburg in his first start in the #27 DHL associate-sponsored Go Daddy car. Last season, he posted three top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes, earning him the 2011 Rookie of the Year honors.
“In the same way our race teams couldn’t travel and compete around the globe without logistical support from DHL, our sport couldn’t exist without sponsors like DHL,” said Michael Andretti, Chairman, President and CEO of Andretti Autosport. “Our businesses share the critical need to maximize efficiency and speed in every aspect to win against our competitors.”
Elements of sponsorship continue in 2012 with DHL image and advertising rights as well as VIP hospitality platforms for DHL customers at races in major U.S., Canadian, Asian and Latin American markets.
