According to the Alaska Journal of Commerce, "After nearly two years of attempting to cuts its costs through other means, United Parcel Service will lay off pilots, including some in Anchorage, according to a company spokesman. Nationwide, UPS will furlough 300 of its 2,800 pilots by 2011. The company will furlough 54 pilots in May, 170 by the end of the year and the remaining 76 by the end of 2011."
