DHL Global Mail announced enhancements to its residential postal parcel delivery services to Latin America. In response to dramatic increases in e-commerce and mail order shipping to customers in the region, DHL Global Mail has reduced delivery times and enhanced customer service capabilities by offering improved "track and trace" features.

According to Forrester Research, on-line sales in the United States alone are projected to be 13% of total retail sales between 2005 and 2010. DHL Global Mail has established numerous priority markets that would require enhanced delivery and operational systems to meet e-commerce customers' needs. "Latin America is quickly becoming one of the most prevalent shipping destinations for U.S. merchandise. Both on-line and traditional mail order companies that ship to Latin America told us what they needed reliability and greater accountability. Today we've responded to the voice of our valued customers," reports Joe Phelan, president and chief operating officer - Americas, DHL Global Mail. We are committed to offering our customers a more efficient product that enables them to easily track their shipments."

The products track and trace capabilities allow e-commerce and other online retailers to check the status of their parcel via DHL Global Mails Web site. This product also includes customs clearance and returns notification. Standard delivery times for dutiable and non-dutiable packets and parcels up to 55 pounds (25 kilograms) range from seven to nine days to Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Other countries in the region have a seven to twelve day transit time expectation from the Miami gateway.

Seventy-one percent of US on-line retailers regularly fulfill on-line orders from customers outside the United States, according to Internet Retailer. DHL Global Mails international parcel product accommodates an increasing demand for a medium-priced track and trace residential parcel solution to destinations outside the United States. In 2005, DHL Global Mail launched a similar residential parcel service to Japan and eight additional Asian countries.
